A wonderful well equipped cottage in a lovely location and some great local walks from the doorstep. Ulverston, Cartmel & Grange all nearby. Owners are first class, excellent communicators & extremely helpful. Would highly recommend

Guest from Westhoughton,

I stayed with a group of friends at the Barn at Haverthwaite. We had a fantastic time. It was such a lovely place to relax. We did plenty of walking and just chilled in the Barn in the evenings. The facilities are great - plenty of bathrooms - which for a group of meant there was no queues!
The place was lovely and clean and the communication right from the booking was quick and easy. Would highly recommend a stay.

Donna Sumer,

A perfect base for the lakes and home from home to come back too. Has everything you need, spectacular views and lovely hosts.
We enjoyed eating in Ulverston which is a 10 min drive away. The Farmers in particular was lovely. We also had trips to the zoo and Beatrix Potter exhibition which our 4 year old loved.

Guest from Blyton,

A really lovely place to stay. We went as two couples and the layout of the Barn allowed us to have our own space if and when we wanted it.
The accommodation is spotlessly clean, spacious and has everything you would need. We would definitely book again.
Take your bikes and your walking boots. Lake Windermere is so close and perfect to walk or cycle round. Try climbing The Old Man of Coniston...and when you are aching the following day take the steam train to Lakeside and the boat around Windermere .

Guest from Chipping Norton,

We will miss that view! The cottage is set in a lovely location and it was a joy to be there. The cottage was well equipped with everything you need on hand and Wayne and Louise were very quick to respond to any queries. Other reviews made the parking sound like a potential issue but it really isn’t.

Guests from Enfield,

We will be booking again of course!
We had a super meal at the punchbowl and used local taxi driver Iain for several trips

Guest from Wales,

Louise and Wayne were the perfect guests. Very responsive to queries and really welcoming.
Fell Foot was great for open water swimming and canoeing. We used Bownesss Bay Marina for a 3 hour boat trip to Ambleside and back - lovely! Also had a lovely meal at The Manor House at Oxen.

Guests from Wallingford,

Great location and really lovely place to enjoy a break. Really good comms with owners and made to feel very welcome and friendly. Will defo going back to stay again. Loved it
Tips for other travellers
20-30 mins from Bowness Windermere and Coniston lakes. If you have to leave property at 9am then good breakfast at Rusland pool Hotel just down the road. Lots of supermarkets in Barrow in furness. Check the cruises and ferry's on lakes before going there on train to make sure they are running.

Guest from Wolverhampton,

Fantastic location for cycling in Grizdale, canoeing on Coniston and excellent base for walking throughout the Lake District.
The Barns is a home from home with all the facilities you need for a perfect holiday home. The cleanliness of the property is outstanding and the little added touches of Tea, milk, biscuits & a bar of Chocolate is lovely!
I have no hesitation in recommending this property as we all enjoyed our stay once again at the Barns in Haverthwaite. The booking with the
owners is very swift and they are very responsive in all communications.

Guest from Blackburn,

Great place, great service and a perfect location. The accommodation had everything you need. We were a family of five which worked well. Myself and my wife had the upstairs room with its own toilet and shower. The kids had two rooms on the floor below with their own bathroom (with shower) and toilet. In addition there is another toilet downstairs. The property was clean and very well presented. The location is accessible to all the key attractions around the Lakes. Getting into the accommodation and leaving were straightforward. I would thoroughly recommend both the location and the accommodation. There is a footpath across the road, slightly left of the property when looking downhill. This footpath goes to the pub and cuts the corner off. Thanks Wayne & Louise.

Matt Way,

4 The barns was a great place to stay in the May half term, we had a thoroughly enjoyable week. Communication with Wayne was great and the barn had all the home comforts. The barn is spacious and well equipped with excellent views of the countryside from the garden. The barn is well located and well within driving distance of all the amenities of the south lake district including lake Coniston / Windermere etc. The south lakes zoo is a 20 min drive away also and we visited a few National Trust places whilst there. The Anglers arms pub is within walking distance and we also went to the Rusland Pool which is on the nearby dual carriage way. We found the food here to be really good. The barn is very well situated to explore whatever takes your fancy in the the lake district. It is also a very nice place to stay and spend time in.

Guests from Liverpool,

Spacious well appointed accommodation with stunning countryside views. Quiet location but close to main road for easy access to other locations. Local facilities (shops etc) within a short drive
Tips for other travellers
Greenodd for ice cream parlour and bakery/cafe. Manor House at Oxen Park for great and classy pub food

Guest from Cardiff,

We had a wonderful stay at the barns. Perfect location and plenty of room for us all in the property. The views were amazing!
Overall a really really beautiful property! The neighbours to the right were really friendly and showed us the way to a local walk through the woods. Super communication from Wayne from the initial enquiry. We enjoyed a walk around Tarn Hows. The steam train from Haverthwaite railway was a great experience. The little carriages were just like the ones on the Hogwarts Express so our children loved that. The play area there is also amazing! We also got a boat to Bowness on Windermere which was good fun. On Saturday we got a Chinese takeaway from Jade Fountain in Ulverston and that was really good. Many Thanks

Guest from Bolton,

Great location, nice little walk to local pub and easy access to some lovely hikes. Found the property very spacious for our needs and will stay again!

Guest from California,

The Barns is a fantastic property in a great location and is perfectly situated for exploring the South Lakes. The view out from the garden is fantastic, we had a wonderful week and the communication from Wayne was very good. We will definitely be visiting again if we get the chance. Thank you

Guest From Manchester,

We really enjoyed our stay at the Barns! The facilities provided everything we needed for an autumnal cycling trip and we found the location to be convenient for visiting lots of different areas of the Lake District. Wayne was particularly helpful in making sure we had everything and that we enjoyed our stay.
Tips for other travellers
We would definitely recommend cycling around the Lake District! Take care to plan routes carefully as the many mountain passes are incredibly beautiful but hard work to ascend

Guest from London,

Stunning barn conversion that exceeded our expectations. Clean, warm, cosy and views were amazing. Contact from the owners were welcomed and sent with a feeling that they cared about our holiday and that our journey was a good one. Kitchen has anything you would need for a stay and the tea, coffee, milk sachets and dish washer tablets were appreciated. The double room on the top floor had a beautiful skylight and lovely and warm, even with the heating off. We didn't use the next two bedrooms as it was just us two but they looked a good size with their own separate bathroom to that level. The lounge had a lovely wood burner and lovely views to the back. Kitchen was a little chilly as only has one radiator in it but still warm enough to sit at the dining room table and admire the display Rayburn. The patio/veranda area was lovely and even though we had some wet days I still sat out there for my morning coffee to listen to the cows and take in the foggy hills

Guest from Letchworth,

Well equipped and spacious. Our second stay and we’ve just booked again for next year. That says it all

Guest from Cardiff,

We have just returned from a fantastic stay in this lovely property. It’s very well appointed, clean and spacious, with everything you need for a relaxing break in the Lakes. The location is great, everything is easily accessible and the steam train from Haverthwaite railway station was brilliant. The owners communication from enquiry to leaving were superb, we can highly recommend this property it was a great find! Thank you Louise and Wayne.

Kirstie Paulesu,

The house was clean, well equipped and well furnished in general and in a great location for exploring the South Lakes. The twin and bunk room are next to each other with a bathroom and the double is up another set of stairs with access to a shower room down a few steps, almost like its own little suite :)
Tips for other travellers
We had small children with us (6 and 3) and we enjoyed walking up Gummers How and a trip to Rydal caves. We took the steam train to Lakeside for the aquarium (which is small but great for a rainy hour or so) and we booked tickets to Fell Foot

Guest from Leamington Spa,

Wayne & Louise are wonderful hosts and the Barn is in a great location to explore the Lakes and beyond. The Barn has everything you need for a comfortable stay for a family and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.

Great location and really lovely place to enjoy a break. Really good comms with owners and made to feel very welcome and friendly. Will defo going back to stay again. Loved it. Only 20-30 mins from Bowness Windermere and Coniston lakes. If you have to leave property at 9am then good breakfast at Rusland Pool Hotel just down the road. Lots of supermarkets in Barrow in furness. Check the cruises and ferry's on lakes before going there on train to make sure they are running

Guest from Wolverhampton,

From the initial booking right through to leaving, the owners were on hand. I will without a doubt be returning to this property. The converted Barn is beautiful and the attention to detail is second to none, from the personal touches to the essentials. The property sleeps six comfortably and there is plenty of room for entertaining. It is set in a quiet scenic location which is a perfect base for visiting the Lake District. There is spacious room in the garage for storing bikes and boots etc. A lovely patio area and garden if the weather is nice. All in all a wonderful place to stay on your holiday! Tips for other travellers
The property is located 8 miles from Grizdale Forest an essential tourist spot for the cycle enthusiast and great for walkers too! You are approx 20 mins from the village of Hawkshead and similar distance to the popular town of Bowness-on-Windermere.
The famous Haverthwaite railway is within walking distance.
I would highly recommend this property if you want the perfect base to visiting the Lake District.

Guests from Blackburn,

Thanks to Wayne & Louise for letting us stay at your beautiful barn. One of the nicest holiday cottages we have stayed. Mick & I spent one week at 4 The Barns, 14th June 2019. Booking & payment was straight forward and excellent communication with Wayne throughout. Lovely barn conversion, spacious and well equipped with everything we needed. The Barns is furnished to a very good standard, spotlessly clean and tidy. 4 The Barns is easy to get to from the M6. We would highly recommend to anyone wanting to spend a holiday in the southern Lake District. Thanks, we give you 10/10. The weather was good too.
Tips for other travellers: Lakeland Motor Museum, which is less than 2 miles from The Barns. Also has a great café.
Cartmel 5 miles away. A lovely village with a variety of shops. Cartmel Village Shop where you can buy their award-winning puddings i.e. sticky toffee pudding. The Cavendish Arms serves good food.

Anne & Mick Gage,

Thank you to Wayne and Louise for a wonderful stay in this beautiful barn. Everything was spotlessly clean on our arrival and it had everything we needed for a week away with family. Wayne was always prompt, thoughtful and courteous when communicating. The barn was in a quiet spot in a lovely village and well situated to explore the South Lakes; Coniston Water, Esthwaite Water, Ambleside, Windermere and Grizedale Forest were all under 30 mins away, the Light Railway 2 minutes down the road and Ullswater and Aira Force were just under an hour away. The weather was glorious and we had a holiday to remember. Our children loved the garden, the bunk beds and the well equipped playground at the foot of the hill and we enjoyed relaxing and the beautiful scenics views. Would thoroughly recommend and would love to come back again.

Rebekah Collard,

Absolutely stunning barn conversion, in a peaceful location and within easy travelling distance to lake Windermere.
The property has everything that we needed. The ground floor has a well equipped kitchen and spacious dining area. On the next floor the lounge is comfortable and cosy. There is a beautiful double bedroom a twin room and a bunk bedroom. The rooms are spacious and the beds are comfortable.
The attention to detail and thought from the owners is spot on- we will definitely return.
Thank you.
Tips for other travellers
The anglers arms is just over half a mile away and we found the service and beer very good.( we didn't eat here - but the menu looked reasonable and it was very popular)
Windermere is 25-30 minutes drive. But if you want to a more relaxed option there is the steam railway about 3 minutes drive away.
We also fell in love with Cartmel just 5/6 miles away - a really quaint village

Guests from Birmingham,

Fantastic place to stay, quirky in its arrangement on three levels but excellent all the same. Plenty of room , lovely to have the welcome pack surprise. Kids loved the bunk bed option and use of Netflix on the smart TV. Will defiantly come back again as location was ideal for surrounding area base.
Tips for other travellers
Very close to the local steam train station which takes you to the lakes where you can catch a boat. Also good motor museum nearby with great cafe. Plenty of pubs and places to eat within a few miles. You will easily fill a week but do your homework on TripAdvisor for things to do before you travel to help you plan activities.

Guest from Padbury GB,

Wonderful accommodation in a great location with lovely countryside views. So much to do in the local area. Highly recommended!

Matthew Launchbury,

Excellent communication from the owners throughout. Booking and payment was straight forward and regular contact made sure we knew exactly were everything was. Tips for other travellers - Easy to find from the M6 and set just a short distance from one of the main roads connecting to most of the Southern Lakes attractions. Coniston Old Man and Windermere are within easy reach as are many other very scenic areas. For those looking to tackle Scafell Pike then be prepared to drive for just over an hour. The route is stunning though. The property offers easy parking on a Minor road which passes by the property

Guests from Exmouth,

A beautiful cottage in a beautiful setting. The perfect base for exploring the local area. We had a lovely time and we're sad to leave. Will be back!
Rusland Pool Hotel does nice food and has a great outdoor playground for kids. We loved hunting for the Gruffalo at Grizedale Forest and visiting the local steam railway which had a lovely cafe and shop too

Guest from Liverpool,

Had the most wonderful time at The Barns. Excellent location to explore the Southern Lakes, beautiful setting, lovely view from the garden, and the house itself is superb! Cannot speak highly enough about the property, or the owners, who are extremely helpful, responsive, and accommodating (the welcome pack was a very nice touch). Will DEFINITELY be returning. Tips for other travellers LOL, where to start? We travelled to Lake Coniston (20 mins drive) and hiked up Old Man Coniston (tough walk but my 5 year old son did it so definitely doable and the view is worth it, believe me! The town of Ulverston is a 10 min drive away which has an excellent supermarket (Booths), and while there a short walk up to Hoad Monument offers superb views of the area. Then theres Lake Windermere(again, approx 20 mins drive away) where you can hire a boat on the lake for around £30 which is well worth it(kids loved it). My last tip is this: Just go there, its awesome!

Guests from Liverpool,

Have to say that the accom and service are second to none as well as affordable excellent value. Second summer stay at the barns. So much to do and see in the area.

Traveller from LOUTH, GB,

Excellent communication. Very helpful prior to stay and excellent support throughout stay when needed. A delightful experience!

Guests from Banbury,

Had lovely stay here - cottage was spacious and well equipped - felt very at home. Tips for other travellers - Enjoyed several walks and a bike ride at Grisedale forest. You can also get steam train to Lakeside to visit Aquarium which was good. Last day our kids were tired so we drove round to Muncaster Castle to see gardens and bird displays (owls/birds of prey and heron feeding)

Guests from Lymm,

Beautiful barn, and easy to get to from the M6. The place was very clean when we arrived, with lots of space available for 6 adults. The kitchen in particular was large and well-stocked. A good number of bathrooms. I would certainly stay again, and would recommend to anyone else.

Guests from London ,

Very roomy and comfortable cottage. The location is great for exploring the Southern Lakes and peninsulas. Fantastic place to come home to after busy days out. A gem.
Tips for other travellers, Haverthwaite railway and boat to Bowness, Grange over Sands, walk up to Gummer's How

Chepstow,

Loved it! Beautiful view, great access to the Lakes. Barn has everything you need every detail been thought of. Owner Wayne was helpful and friendly.
Perfect week! Thanks

North Shields,

Had a fantastic stay. The Barn is tremendous. Great location for South lake area. Easy to get to.
Barn has a great quirky layout which we all loved. Peaceful... Yet convenient. Definitely recommended. Lovely little touches like milk in fridge, starter pack of tea& coffee, Loo rolls, kitchen roll. Real home from home. Go ape, zip line trek, was amazing. Walks in Grizdale Forrest. Steam train then boat to Bo'ness. South lakes safari zoo was great! Watch the vultures though we got attacked by one

Traveller from Edinburgh, GB,

I was very pleased with the communication from the start, they always replied promptly to me if I had a question and dealt with the booking process very quickly and easily. I thought the barn was great value for money. We had a lovely stay there. It was very relaxing and quiet with beautiful countryside views. The barn had everything we could have wanted, except for maybe a small lamp in the bunk room, that would have been helpful. We had to borrow one from the attic room. But not a big deal. It was very well equipped with several of everything in the kitchen. I have stayed at places before where you don't even have enough cutlery, so it was fantastic. Highly recommended! Recommend Gummers How, it is a walk not too far from the cottage, recommended by the neighbour. With a fabulous view at the top over Lake Windermere.

Traveller from Nice, FR ,

Gorgeous barn conversion done to a very nice standard. Love the different levels and the fact you can all sit together in both the kitchen area and lounge. Great service from Wayne and Louise the chocolate was a lovely touch. The White Hart at Bouth was a quirky little pub and The Anglers Arm was within walking distance from the barn. Both very nice and welcoming

Traveller from Preston, GB,

The whole experience from start to finish was a pleasure. The cottage is in a beautiful location and is very clean and tastefully decorated. The cottage is well placed for the attractions in the South Lakes and easily accessed from the M6. Wayne, the owner, is very attentive and was in contact through the process. We would definitely stay again if we were holidaying in the area. The combined ticket for the steam railway, boat and either the aquarium or the motor museum is well worth it, especially with kids. There's also a small park a short walk from the cottage (just follow the road on into Haverthwaite) which is great for the kids too. We also visited the dunes at Sandstone Haws Reserve, about 20mins east towards Barrow-in-Furness. The kids loved running down them. Great on a sunny day.

Traveller from Tillicoultry, GB,

Really enjoyed our stay here. Would highly recommend. Location, facilities and overall stay was 10/10. We climbed up 'Gummer's How' which didn't take long and had spectacular views

Traveller from Stockport, GB,

Such a lovely, comfortable place to stay, the barn had everything we needed and was decorated and equipped to a very high standard. The owners were so helpful. All in all a great break for us. Although it's quite a drive, Buttermere is wonderful. We saw it in the Autumn colours, spectacular

Traveller from Halesowen GB,

This is our second stay at the Barns and we look forward to our next holiday. Our friends who joined us have stayed in many holiday cottages over the years. They both said this was the best holiday let they had ever stayed in. Keep up the good work. There are lots of lovely places to visit not to far away and plenty of local pubs and restaurants too. We tried the Anglers Arms, it was excellent food at a very reasonable price. Went to the Drunken Duck at Skilwith Bridge for Sunday lunch, lovely meal but expensive at £16 for one course

Traveller from Warrington GB,

Very helpful; did not wont for information regarding finding the Barns or our stay. The ability to be able to control the heating was great as the nights had started getting nippy and our last cottage we had no control at all. The cottage was very well furnished and kitted out and our son loved being able to sit and watch the cows and sheep from the living room snug. Haverthwaite Steam Railway and Windermere lake cruises were fantastic. Would also recommend Holker Hall and Sizergh Castle. We had a toddler so couldn't do much walking but did enjoy a day in St. Bees. An amazing beach and views.

Traveller From Kidderminster GB,

Very friendly owners and excellent communication. Could not have had a better place to stay. Everything needed was there. Great activities for children offered at Brockhole on lake Windermere. Ours particularly enjoyed the canoeing and raftbuilding classes. Great train ride from Haverthwaite station. Will need to return as there is so much on offer and the cottage is an ideal base

Traveller from Ipswich,

Enjoyed another fantastic stay at The Barns in Haverthwaite. Have lost count on how many times we have now stayed at this excellent holiday cottage and it never fails to disappoint. Views across the valley from the lounge, kitchen and patio areas are fabulous and this time even saw young calf being born in field. Would highly recommend The White Hart in Bouth for character pub and good home cooked food. Great location to access Windermere, Coniston Lake, Old Man of Coniston, Grizdale and of course Haverthwaite Steam train to Lakeside and then ferry to Bowness/Ambleside + other attractions of South Lakes

Traveller from Preston GB,

Wayne was very friendly, told us if we needed anything just to contact him. The house was lovely with plenty of space, the little extras that were left was very thoughtful especially after a long drive & being stuck in traffic, I would definitely return to 4 The Barns. Cartmel was a nice place to go, Windemere is lovely, the drive to it was about 20mins, parking is not the easiest, would recommend getting the steam train from Haverthwaite & then the boat along to Windemere, this was a good day out & reasonably price. Kendal is about 40mins drive & is nice.

Traveller from Prestwick,

Wonderful family place to stay, and a great base from which to visit the Southern Lakes. Wayne made sure everything was in order before we arrived and during our stay. Absolutely loved the place. Zoo safari - excellent. Bus stop outside the railway station meant we could do an open top bus tour from Bowness, and also catch the public bus back home - We took our bikes and had the best cycling holiday ever.

Traveller from Singapore,

The Barns is one of the nicest cottages, if not the best we have stayed in for a long time. Perfect in every way and also the children were made up with the excellent WIFI available.

Traveller from Mold GB,

As always the Barn was well presented, well equipped with great customer service from Wayne & Louise. Fantastic views over the valley and National Park with a country feel throughout the property. We hope to revisit soon and will recommend to friends and family. Would recommend steam train from Haverthwatie to Lakeside and then catch ferry to Bowness and Ambleside. Grizedale forest, Coniston lake and Old Man Coniston not too far away. Well located for exploring South lakes

Guest from Preston,

The Barns is a perfect getaway. Well located in the south lakes, surrounded by rolling fields and cows. The house itself is finished to a very high standard, spotlessly clean, and cosy...especially with the fire. The showers are powerful, exactly what you need afyer a long day out walking. Although situated on a road, it is perfectly quiet at night. The cottage came with extra little touches, such as board games, books and dvds, and even a bar of chocolate on arrival! The communication with Wayne and Louise was superb, everything ran as smoothly as it possibly could. I would thoroughly recommend this place to family and friends. Tips for other travellers We spent our days hiking around Corniston. The area is beautiful and has a lot of great walks which are within 30 min drive from the cottage. The village itself is very nice, and less touristy than Windermere or Ambleside.

Guest from Liverpool,

Very Helpful and Efficient, Nice Touch to Keep in Contact Making Sure Everything was OK, Best Thing was the Chocolate !! Many Thanks !
Tips for other travellers, Haverthwaite Steam Train & Ferry to Bowness, Walks Along the River & to Bouth, Shopping in Ulverston, Meals out at The Masons Arms at Bowland Bridge, The Swan Hotel at Newby Bridge, The White Heart at Bouth and The Rusland Pool Hotel along the A 590

Guest from Warrington,

This is a super property which is cosy but spacious, modern but homely with lovely beds, powerful hot showers and all mod cons for cooking. When the only request one has, is for a spot light onto the big wall map in the kitchen, you know you are onto a winner. Loved the under cupboard heater too for those Feb breakfasts. V helpful hosts. Will be back. Please could you replicate in the northern lakes so we can alternate!

Guests from London GB,

We were absolutely blown away when we arrived and explored the Barns it was fantastic. enjoyed the first class facilities, views and location. we would definately return or recommend this property to our friends

Guests from Preston,

We stayed at this property over the Xmas, the house was truly amazing. We arrive just before Xmas to find a lovely Xmas tree which was fantastic.
The property is decorated and furnished to a very high standard. Home from home.

Guests from Durham,

This was our third stay at 4 the Barns and it never disappoints. We arrived late in the evening but the place was lovely and warm when we arrived. I don't doubt we will be back again. We had a great meal at the Anglers Arms and also at the Rusland Pool Hotel

Guests from Preston,

Beautiful barn conversion, well equipped and extremely cosy with breath taking views. Wayne & Louise were excellent hosts who were in contact prior to our visit, made sure we arrived safely and if needed were only at the end of a phone to assist, which was gratefully appreciated. A welcome tray with tea/coffee was a true bonus plus the extra touch of a scrumy bar of chocolate was an added bonus. As hosts go a massive 10/10. We only once ate in the village, as we were out & about a lot but the food was still extremely good. Our favourite pub was the "Rose & Crown" at Cark, food was amazing, the staff were so so friendly & the Sunday Lunch was fabulous.

Stevenson,

Just awesome, Brockhole for kids plus ferry trip, Safari zoo worth a visit, Beatrix Potter and Bowness via the ferry from Lakeside, Holker Hall - kids loved Halloween hunt through the gardens and The Swan hotel fab food - our favourite and Anglers Arms in Haverthwaite and White Hart Inn also good.

Seaholme Family,

Beautiful barn with lovely views across the valley. The facilities were excellent and the place was absolutely spotless. Wayne was extremely helpful and friendly which made the booking and arrival very easy. Instructions and information were all clear and unambiguous. Highly recommended

From Stockport,

Beautifully furnished and spacious property. Loved the view from the Kitchen and Living room. Home from home everything you could wish for DVDs, board games, books, comfortable beds. and much more. Great location plenty to do without having to travel far. Loved the walk up Gummers Fell with fantastic views of Windermere Lake and the Coast. Excellent customer service from Wayne, loved the welcome call, and welcome tray. Thanks again. Dawn & Grace 3rd-10th Oct 2014

Dawn & Grace,

Wayne very helpful and informative. Booking process easy and plenty of information given re. directions and instructions for equipment in barn. Tips for other travellers - Lovely walk to Cartmel across fells and plenty of cafes, specialist shops and pubs there - also an easy ten minute drive in the car. Would recommend Coniston and the Grizedale side of Windemere for peaceful walks away from the crowds of Windemere and Bowness-on-Windemere

Traveller from York,

Absolutely fantastic accommodation, very clean and comfortable. We had great stay - so chilled. Few great local walks from the barn, Whitewater spa facilities are great to relax and the Swan Hotel is a gorgeous place to eat at Newby Bridge

From Sunderland,

My wife and I (both in our 70's) stayed for a week recently with our 15 year old grandson and his friend. The cottage was perfect in every way and ideally accommodated the mixed group. We were helped by good weather allowing us to breakfast outside on most mornings.A very successful break.

Ian Bowler,

A lovely house with great views across the fields towards a beautiful hillside. The house is tastefully furnished and has a real sense of space. Very impressed by the customer service received from Wayne the owner. Nice pub in the village which serves tasty food. Lots to do in local area: steam railways, Lakeside Aquarium, Old Man of Coniston, Morcombe Bay, Grizedale Forest, Stott Park Bobbin Mill, Hawkshead. We've had a fantastic holiday and would definitely book again.

Stacey & Family,

Holidaying at this stylish and beautifully presented property in its stunning location was a real treat. Staying in could be the new going out here, as The Barn is equipped to such a high standard that poor weather could be seen as an advantage - you can just relax and enjoy the comprehensive selection of books, games and DVDs. The owners have gone the extra mile to ensure that their guests have every comfort and their attention to detail is second to none. Highly recommended!

Carol,

Efficient, friendly and professional service from Wayne from enquiring, through booking and during our stay. An immaculate cottage throughout with clever and well-thought out use of space. Furniture and fittings top quality and everything spotless. We had four days as a couple and were then joined by daughter, son-in-law and their two children for another three days. Eating in was easy. Eating out lots of choice with The Farmers Arms in Ulverston marketplace and The Kings Arms in Cartmel top notch. Lots to do in The South Lakes even in January and we've had a fantastic week to start 2014 off. Thanks Wayne and Louise. We'll be back!

Dave and Pauline Jefferson,

Stayed at 4 The Barns for New Year (total 6 nights). From first booking to check out the owner was very helpful and speedy with the replies. On arrival at the property we found it spotlessly clean and very well maintained , self check in was very easy and straight forward. The Barn has a great feel about it and excellent views from the kitchen and living room windows. Probably the best thought out, designed and equipped holiday rental we have ever stayed in. We would highly recommend and as we own a holiday rental business over in Gozo (Malta) i would invite the owners over to stay with us any time. (Tips) The local village pub is good for Ales and bar meals as we ate there twice , L'enclume Restaurant 2 Michelin stars was superb (15 minutes drive away) Stayed in the Barn and cooked a few nights as the kitchen has everything. Carl & Kirsti

Carl & Kirsti,

This year we spent Christmas in this beautiful barn conversion. From the first moment of contact Wayne answered all of my questions and passed very useful information on to me about the surrounding area. When we arrived we found the house had everything we needed and was beautifully clean. This property is so quirky, we especially enjoyed the log burner. The chocolate was a lovely touch too. We will certainly be returning to this beautiful holiday home. Thanks again

Hester Nunns-Tidman,

We've just spent a fantastic week (31/08 to 06/09) at No 4 The Barns and cannot praise this property highly enough. The Barn was equipped to the highest standard providing everthing that was needed for a great holiday, even the weather. The welcome tray, complete with biscuits and chocolate, was just what was needed after a long journey down from Scotland. A previous guest described the Barn as "spacious but cozy" and I think that about sums it up. There were five adults in our party but we never felt cramped or crowded at any time. The good weather also allowed us to enjoy a few morning teabreaks outside, on the patio, looking out over the gorgeous countryside. Our days out and about were mostly spent touring, and walking, in The Lake District. We also enjoyed the Lakes Aquarium and Lakeland Motor Museum, both local and easy to get to, the Aquarium by means of the Havethwaite Steam Railway as an additional treat. Finally, many thanks to Wayne for the courtesy shown to us right from the time of booking through to our departure. You always kept us up to date with things and were on hand for advise if any was needed. Looking forward to our next visit already.

Norman Brewster,

Fabulous Location, Fabulous Place, Fabulous Holiday. A 5 star luxury accommodation with 5 star service....Can't recommend it enough....we will definitely be back

Julie McKay,

Thank you so much for making us feel so welcome. The little touches (especially the chocolate) made all the difference. We have stayed in a few Lake district cottages but this was definitely the best ever. We had everything we needed and more. We will be recommending it to friends and would love to come back again ourselves. Nothing beats the beautiful smell of the garden and countryside when you step out of the door first thing in the morning. Altogether an amazing relaxing short break. Well done Wayne and Louise

Ann,

We had a fabulous week at The Barns at Easter. We had absolutely everything we needed and really enjoyed the beautiful views at the front of the barn. Great location, really handy for lots of different places. Wayne went out of his way to check that we were happy. We would love to return!

Joanna, Dave, Millie and Edward,

Just had a great week at the Barn, a beautiful place, so well thought out and plenty of room for six. We could not fault anything and the service from Wayne prior to the visit and during was great, really thoughtful. Many lovely touches at the barn including milk in the fridge and some biscuits, the kids thought the chocolate was just "the best". It was great to be able to store our bikes away safely and only a few miles to Grizedale forest meant we had a great cycling break. Would recommend to all as a fabulous location to explore the south lakes, particularly for cyclists.

Faye, Andy, Nick, Andrea, Ross and Lilly,

We have just returned from a super week (despite the weather) at The Barns. What a great place! so comfortable, roomy and well equipped. The family all gathered for a running event at nearby Carmel and I'm sure we'll return. Thanks Wayne and Louise you'd thought of everything and we really enjoyed the wood burning stove.

Hazel and Dave,

We stayed at the Barn for a week, 22nd Feb till 1st March. When we arrived and let ourselves in we both said.......WOW!!!!!! What a beautiful place, so well thought out to please both young and old. We have stayed in barns before but this has been the best.... COULD NOT FAULT ANYTHING. Well done Wayne & Louise. Your lovely, friendly and soooooo helpful.Going to bring my parents later on this year, my mum certainly won't want to leave. Thank you so much for creating an amazing place in an amazing area. PERFECT IN EVERY WAY..... We selfishly Don't want to tell anyone about this beautiful place... But we will...........Promise

Deb & Kev Coaten,

Just wanted to say thanks again - we had a great time over New Year, everyone loved the barn and we all loved the Christmas tree and chocolates. It's so well laid out and everyone can be together without being on top of each other, there are so many different spaces for different activities. There were plenty of dvd's, books and games, the kitchen has everthing you need, we loved the docking stations in the bedrooms, the decor and quality in all the rooms was spot on, and as my 9 year old son said "you should be so proud"!

Suzie,

We had a fantstic stay at the Barn over Christmas, the accomodation was spacious and cozy with all the comforts of home and stunning views. Its in the perfect location for lots of attractions and we found plenty to do even though the weather was not always great.
Wayne and Louise have done a wonderful job and I have already recommended the Barn to friends and family.
Thanks for a fab holiday.
Abigail and Simon

Abigail ,

We had a wonderful week staying at the Barn, Matty enjoyed biking in the local area & at Grizedale Forest. We had some great days out then cosy evenings in front of the log burner. The accommodation was superb, with lots of space and home comforts. We loved the collection of DVD's & having a TV in the kitchen/diner Matty was able to play on his console without disturbing us. Thank you Louise & Wayne - you should be very proud of what you've achieved in providing a fantastic place to stay.

Tricia, Rich & Matty,

We spent a lovely 4 night break here in October, which has to be the best quality accommodation we have ever stayed in. So much space and immaculate throughout with superb facilities. We had Mum along with us and it was really handy for her to catch up on her soaps on the TV downstairs while we tuned in in the lounge. That still left another TV for our son to view in the bedroom if he wished! Every conceivable utensil was provided. Wayne and Louise have both worked really hard and indeed continue to do so to provide a wonderful faultless place to stay in beautiful surroundings. We shall return.

Bev Steve and Ross Carrigan and nanny Dot,

We have just returned from a wonderful week at the Barns. Beautifully furnished, modern & homely. Everything we needed was on hand and Wayne was very helpful & accommodating. It was really comfortable throughout, especially coming home after a day out on the lakes in the rain. We took my parents, who live in South Africa & were very impressed. We would definitely return & recommend to others. It is by far one of the better self catering holiday homes on offer in the Lakes. Perfectly situated. Highly recommend a trip on the steam train from Haverthwaite to Lakeside, a walk in Fell Foot Park & lunch at the Swan. Enjoyed our stay thoroughly, thank you.

Rachel Gregory & Simone Coetzee ,

Our stay at 4 Barns was part holiday and part family get-together. We wanted somewhere quiet but close to activities and family. We could not have chosen better. The cottage is superbly appointed, everything one could possibly need was provided and the reaction on opening the front door was a unanimous 'Wow!'. Many of the extras we brought with us were just not needed. We liked having a phone (with honesty box) available and use of the Wi-Fi was (for most of us) essential. Facilities were both close and excellent. It rained most of the time we stayed in the lakes but this did not detract from our overall enjoyment and in particular our trip on the steam train and onward to Bowness. Everyone enjoyed the visit to the Laurel and Hardy Museum and dressing up as well as the continual running of the films which are timeless in their humour. Finally, we were very grateful for the time out that Wayne and Louise took to check that we were settled in and to phone them if there was a problem. Yes, we will definitely be coming again.
